Shenilla Mohamed is the Executive Director of Amnesty International South Africa. She is media, communications, human rights and development practitioner with over 30 years’ experience gained in South Africa and internationally.
Her experience includes South Africa Director for Oxfam GB, Executive Director for the Hivos-International Media Support-DFID Programme on Media and Governance in Zimbabwe and Africa Director for OutRight Action International in New York. She was the Southern African Representative for the Committee to Protect Journalists in New York as well as the Bureau Chief Northern Emirates for the Gulf News in Dubai, and Deputy Director of the BBC Trust African Media Initiative in Kenya as well as Europe, Middle East and Africa Editor for Inter Press Services based in Johannesburg.
Her skills include executive management and board-level experience. She also brings skills and experience in designing and implementing programmes, human resource management, financial management, monitoring and evaluation, strategic planning and communications and organisational development. She is a certified workplace coach.
