Yashmita is a social worker by profession. While her initial work experience was centred around child protection, Yashmita has gained considerable experience working in the fields of training as well as on issues related to HIV since joining the HIVSA team in 2008.
In the time that she has been with HIVSA, she was responsible for the establishment of HIVSA’s training department. She has also had oversight of HIVSAs Community Systems Strengthening programme which included the five-year Orphans and Vulnerable Children and Youth (OVCY) Support Programme funded by PEPFAR.
Yashmita is passionate about community development and empowering communities to take ownership of challenges and arrive at sustainable solutions.
She is currently an Executive Member of the Yezingane Network that represents the children’s sector at the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC).
